It should be an .m4b - I upload them as title_librivox.m4b. And make them via iTunes
All the one's I listen to work on an iPod - I don't have an iPad - is there an option for audiobooks ?

If the ending really is mp4b let me know which it is and I'll look.

to quote google
quote Choose the Audiobooks menu on the left side of iTunes. Put a checkmark next to Sync Audiobooks, and then pick whether you want to sync all the audiobooks from your iTunes library or just certain ones. Now you can sync your device with iTunes to send the M4B file to your iPhone, iPad, or iPod touch. end of quote

Thanks Anne,
Yes there is an option for Audio books on the ipad
the file name in question is "BeyondGoodAndEvil64kb_librivox.m4b",
the "File Type" description in the properties is "MPEG-4 Audio File (Protected) (.m4b)". The book is by Friedrich Nietzsche

When I try to drag the file from my PC directory to the Audio Books screen for my ipad in itunes it has the small red circle with a bar across itattached and does not go. I tried moving it using my file transfer app into my documents folder and although it copied there with out a problem when I tap on it I get the message "This file is unsupported. You can't view this file on your device."
